Dr Kerr's New Office Location

Challenge:
Steven Kerr, an English pediatrician has been offered a job working with Baptist Medical Center Beaches in Jacksonville, Florida. He is looking for an area to open an office that is close to the hospital and near the Jacksonville International Airport so that he can fly to see his family in England often. In addition to close proximity to the hospital and airport, Dr Kerr also wants to have a practice in an area that has a high population of 30-39 year olds as they will be the most likely to have children. He also wants to be in a location that has a high income rate so he does not have to worry about receiving payment for services rendered.

Location!!!

I think this weeks project was interesting because it showed more of what GIS can do in the everyday type of industry.

The first map is weighted equally towards the desire to live in an area that is both close to Phoenix College as well as Chandler Regional Hospital. The other qualifications of the couple were to be in an area with homeowners of similar age as well as have homes with high value. While the areas in red are close to both the college and the hospital, the areas in yellow and green mark locations that more closely fulfill all the clients’ requests. This map analysis shows that the best suited areas for the home purchase would be in a small area, marked in green directly Northeast of Phoenix College. Another area larger Area of possibility , not as closely matched by the clients request is marked in yellow a bit more northeast of the prime location.

Impact Assesments

Of course I was the one with issues on the first part of the module! I seem to LOVE to be the trouble maker lately- Sorry, Amber! Anyway, once I got moving, I was ok. The exporting into shapefiles and then editing tables made it go a bit slower, but I think that work around could be better than the alternative. I also had some issues adding general information to the 3D map. I just kind of winged it. So here are the fruits of my labor. I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!
